Lead Quality Assurance Engineer
We are currently looking for an experienced and quality-driven Lead QA Engineer to join our team and take ownership of the quality assurance function across one of our core product teams.
In this role, your primary focus will not be on driving business features forward, but on ensuring that the quality of implementation is consistently high and scalable. You will play a central role in defining our QA strategy, owning the test process end-to-end, and mentoring others in adopting and advancing best practices.
This is not just a technical QA role — it is a leadership opportunity. You will be expected to evaluate and improve existing processes, create a QA roadmap, and ensure test automation and quality practices are embedded across the delivery lifecycle. You will work closely with product managers, developers, and business stakeholders to shape how quality is defined, implemented, and improved over time.
Our stack is Golang running on Google Cloud Platform, following modern engineering practices including Domain-Driven Design, microservices, API-first, and continuous delivery. We use Behaviour Driven Development and expect you to help evolve and drive our approach to quality through automation, strategy, and technical insight.
QA stack is Playwright with Typescript using Cucumber for E2E testing and K6s for performance testing.
We are a remote-friendly team but ideally looking for someone based in Copenhagen, Denmark or Sofia, Bulgaria.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the full QA process within your product area
- Define and implement a QA roadmap aligned with team and company goals
- Lead and mentor other QA engineers, fostering best practices and consistency
- Evaluate and optimize the current test setup and tooling
- Drive test automation efforts, and ensure quality is embedded in CI/CD workflows
- Collaborate with product managers and developers to align on quality expectations
- Shape and enforce QA strategy using BDD and Gherkin/Cucumber
- Perform exploratory testing where necessary and guide the team in testing thinking
- Analyse production issues and define preventive quality measures
- Support both automated and occasional manual testing, based on need
- Own documentation and quality reporting processes
Your Qualifications:
- Deep experience with Behaviour Driven Development (Cucumber & Gherkin)
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and modern software architecture
- Proven experience in QA leadership or ownership roles
- Hands-on experience with test automation
- Experience working in CI/CD environments (e.g. GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
- Excellent debugging and fault isolation skills
- Effective communicator and confident collaborator across product and tech teams
- Able to think both strategically and tactically about quality
- Previous experience in payments or fintech is a plus
- Comfortable working in a remote-first, fast-moving environment
What We Offer:
- A high-impact lead role in a globally scaling fintech company
- Freedom to shape and improve our QA culture and capabilities
- Competitive salary and remote-first flexibility
- A collaborative, product-focused engineering culture
- Room to grow technically and strategically in a high-performing team
